DAY IN THE LIFE OF A GSIS STUDENT – DORM LIFE
What does a typical day in the life of an international student look like? For students who already live in the dorm, this is something you might relate to and for those who are looking forward to moving to the dorm, this is something to add to your expectations.
I am currently a resident of E-House and since I spend my weekdays going for classes, I’ll share my activities during the weekend which are usually spent in the dormitory with you.
My alarm usually beeps at 5:20am and I spend 10 minutes preparing to go to the seminar room located on B1 of building 203. I usually use the seminar room instead of the study room because laptops are not allowed in the study room and I often study and work on my assignments with my laptop. I generally spend 3 to 4 hours working on assignments or reading articles (as a GSIS student, there is always lots of articles to be read).
Before returning to my room, I first visit Edelia café located at B2 of building 203 for pastries and then to E-mart located right next to Edelia for chocolate milk since I’m not a fan of coffee. After breakfast, I normally go to the gym around 10:30am with my friend and spend an hour or an hour and half using the treadmill and stretching (breaks included). I then return to my room to shower and refresh.
Weekends are usually more relaxed and calmer than during the weekdays, so I take that opportunity to cook in the kitchen located at B2 of building 203 or if I’m feeling too lazy, I end up eating lunch at the cafeteria located at B2 of building 201. The cafeteria opens for lunch from 11:30am to 1:30pm on weekends and from 11:30am to 2:00pm on weekdays.
After lunch, I use the laundry room located at B2 of building 204 and while my laundry is in the washer, I use the 50 minutes to watch anime series and after I switch to the dryer which takes an hour, I spend about 40-50 minutes taking a nap. I really enjoy naps because I get tired easily during the day since I wake up early in the morning and taking a nap makes me feel like I have entered another phase of the day. After laundry, I spend the rest of the late afternoon continuing my anime series or reading a book.
I often spend my dinner time eating ice cream at Baskin Robbins located at B2 of building 203 with my friend who is also a GSIS student and we always end up complaining about how much articles we have to read and the number of critical reviews or memos we have to prepare but after that, we feel a lot lighter.
If not, I casually go out to eat with my roommate and take a detour to the karaoke (노래방) alone. It is one of the ways I destress, and I always feel energized after shouting my lungs out. I then return to the dormitory to talk to my family, brush my teeth, take a shower, review my studies for about an hour or less depending on my mood, read my Bible and I go to bed between 11:00pm to 12:00am.
Generally, how I spend my day differs depending on my schedule and workload but typically, that’s how I spend my day. I guess life wouldn’t be the same without its spontaneity and mine is no exception.
Now that I’ve shared mine, how is your typical day like?
